“What’s a Soul Mate? It’s like a best friend but more. It’s the one person in the world who knows you better than anyone else. That someone who makes you a better person. No, actually they don’t make you a better person. You do that by yourself because they inspire you. A soul mate is someone you carry with you forever. It’s one person who knew you, accepted you and believed in you before anyone else did or when no one else would. And no matter what happens, you’ll always love them and nothing could ever change that.”

“When I was 10, we went to England. My mother was shooting a miniseries there… My dad took me to Paris for the weekend. We had the most amazing time. On the plane back to London, he asked me, ‘Do you know why I took you to Paris, only you and me?’ And I said, ‘Why?’ And he said, ‘Because I wanted you to see Paris for the first time with a man who you know will love you for the rest of your life.’”

This is overwhelming sweet—but more like an almost overripe fruit than saccharine.

“Nobody knows what you want except you. And nobody will be as sorry as you if you don’t get it. Wanting some other way to live is proof enough of deserving it. Having it is hard work, but not having it is sheer hell.”

“Love is passion, obsession, someone you can’t live without. If you don’t start with that, what are you going to end up with? Fall head over heels. I say find someone you can love like crazy and who’ll love you the same way back. And how do you find him? Forget your head and listen to your heart. I’m not hearing any heart. Run the risk, if you get hurt, you’ll come back. Because, the truth is there is no sense living your life without this. To make the journey and not fall deeply in love - well, you haven’t lived a life at all. You have to try. Because if you haven’t tried, you haven’t lived.”

William Parrish.

I found this when looking through old correspondence with my friend Ben. Realized that I need to do more of this. Less thinking. More living.

This quote reminds me of what Carrie said on SATC…”I want to find love. Real love. Ridiculous, inconvenient, consuming, can’t-live-without-each-other love.”

But many more know exactly what their career will be, yet have absolutely no passion for what they’re about to pursue. For these passionless pre-professionals, college was simply an economics equation to be optimized: earn the best possible grades in order to get the highest paying job. But hey—most of these people will make great money in careers like investment banking. Mission accomplished, right?

Maybe. But…
What if you pursued the thing that interests you the most…as your career?
What if work could be a source of happiness?
What if you could feel like your work is the very reason you exist?

Too many of my peers are discarding, or never discover, their passion in life. They’re playing the academic game: trying to optimize their outcome by earning good grades. It doesn’t matter if your job interests you—just do it well and make a lot of money.
